How to update your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS to iOS 4
Step
Make sure you've got the latest version of iTunes® on your PC or Mac.
Step
Open iTunes. Plug your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS into your computer with the USB cable. iTunes will guide you through the update.
Step
Once you've completed the software update and your iPhone is fully working, click the 'check for updates' button in iTunes one more time to make sure you've got all the settings you need.
For Pay & Go, or if you're a Pay Monthly customer but on a non-iPhone tariff:

Check your data (APN) settings on your iPhone 3G or 3GS.
Step
Text 'MMS' free to 1010 to set up picture messaging.
For Business and Pay Monthly customers on a tariff for iPhone
We'll set everything up for you when you've downloaded the software.
